VZ-Amphibians and Reptiles Advanced Collections Management


OVERVIEW: The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) Department of Vertebrate Zoology seeks volunteers who are retired collections management staff to assist with collections management of the amphibians and reptiles collections


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Physical and digital (via EMu) cataloguing of collections accrued during their tenure when actively employed in the division, performing data entry/clean-up in EMu, creating and attaching multimedia records in EMu, organizing accession paperwork accrued during their tenure and submitting it to the OR when possible, organizing important SI emails received during their tenure into shared folders for current staff to access, organizing field notes, re-jarring and re-shelving specimens, inventorying both cataloged and uncatalogued specimens, transcribing data from original sources, preparing and installing labels for shelving and drawers, replacing metal tags with paper tags, preparing osteological specimens, scanning data/field notes/figures and illustrations, assist with pulling specimens for loans.


SKILLS: Retired A&R staff who are detail-oriented.


SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS: At least one half day/week
