Thank you for your interest in joining the Smithsonian's National Zoo's Cheetah Conservation Station (CCS) Volunteer Interpreter program. CCS is home to cheetahs, zebras, Dama gazelles and scimitar-horned oryx, red river hogs, sitatunga and Abyssinian ground hornbills. Their exhibits are designed to encourage and enable the animals' natural behavior. Through on-line and in-person training you will learn about the exhibit and how to share information with Zoo guests.  As a volunteer, your role will be to talk with visitors to the National Zoo and tell the stories of the animals in the exhibit.

Please Note: These positions are highly competitive and there are limited spaces available. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of placement. The Smithsonian Institution and FONZ are committed to providing the safest environment for our staff and volunteers, as well as for our guests. Select applicants will be interviewed by staff, and those who are provisionally accepted will be fingerprinted and must pass a Smithsonian background check for any convictions directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Only job-related convictions will be considered and will not automatically disqualify the candidate.
